Eclipse

In March 2004 the gene for all jet black eyes emerged in the new A.P.T.O.R. project - the ECLIPSE. This exciting new morph expresses the gene for all black-eyes. ECLIPSE hatch with and retain totally black eyes throughout their lives. Their typical pattern is a series of longitudinal rows of black spots or dashes with white feet, lips and nose with freckling while the body is yellow and often combined with a carrot-tail. Some ECLIPSE have greatly reduced body spotting. As of June 2005, there have been no jungle phase or banded phase ECLIPSE produced suggesting that there may be a genetic link or gene combination occurring between the eye color and pattern. Additionally, the thinking at this time, is that the ECLIPSE/RAPTOR is not related genetically to the Super Snows. However, many people think that crossing the ECLIPSE/RAPTOR with a Mack Super Snow will be an interesting experiment. I agree.
The new ECLIPSE mutation was crossed with the Tremper albino gene in order to make the R.A.P.T.O.R. morph.

Want to produce both RAPTOR and ECLIPSE from the same parents?

Here's four ways that can occur:

  • Breed a non-albino het for RAPTOR to a non-albino het for RAPTOR.
  • Breed a non-albino het for RAPTOR to an albino het for RAPTOR.
  • Breed an ECLIPSE het for albino to a non-albino het for RAPTOR.
  • Breed an ECLIPSE het for albino to an albino het for RAPTOR.

Aptors

November 2004 - After four years of development........

Introducing the A.P.T.O.R. = a Carrot-head, Carrot-tail, Hypo Tangerine, Patternless, Tremper Albino in both normal and Giant size.   A.P.T.O.R.s have the regularly pigmented albino eye.

This new patternless gene is totally separate from the "leucistic" and blizzard lines, and therefore, will combine genetically with all other known morphs. Notice that it lacks any banded pattern so often seen in all hypo variations, which have been derived from the "Florida" strain. The A.P.T.O.R. does not carry the gene to make the banded body pattern. It hatches 90-100% patternless (see above photo) and often carries the gene for reverse stripe. Any pattern seen is in the form of small light-colored, mid-dorsal, spots, circles or faint lines, which are often overtaken by the tangerine during the first 8 months of growth.

In the year 2000 I developed a tangerine line of albinos whereby the the orange body markings take over the existing lighter body pattern. This can occur in striped, reverse striped, jungle and banded patterned albinos that carry this gene mutation. I call this condition "Super Tangerine". Others have labeled this same mutation as "hyglo" or "hybino". The A.P.T.O.R. hatches with very little, if any pattern, whereas the Super Tangerine hatch with a well-defined pattern of tangerine and light gray and within the first 10 months of age vigorous pigment expansion and migration makes for a very nice gecko - sometimes appearing almost patternless themselves.

Raptors

Also in March 2004 the long-awaited gene for all ruby-red eyes emerged in the new A.P.T.O.R. morph. The exciting R.A.P.T.O.R. is an A.P.T.O.R. expressing the gene for all ruby-red eyes. R.A.P.T.O.R.S. hatch with and retain totally red eyes throughout their lives. The R.A.P.T.O.R. is the albino expression of the new ECLIPSE mutation, pictured below.

Both the Eclipse and the R.A.P.T.O.R. also have a new eye mutation whereby half a given eye is totally uniform in color and the other half of the same eye is regularly pigmented (see photo below). This condition has been named "SNAKE EYES". Some individuals have one eye totally uniform in color and one snake-eye. Over 50 snake-eyes have been hatched from Eclipse and R.A.P.T.O.R. breedings.

Perhaps we are dealing with two separate recessive genes for eye pigmentation, but this will have to be sorted out over the next few years through test breedings conducted by the people who acquire these new mutations. It is not known at this time if R.A.P.T.O.R. times R.A.P.T.O.R. results in 100% pure R.A.P.T.O.R.s or if you get 50% R.A.P.T.O.R.s and 50% snake-eyed R.A.P.T.O.R.s.

Since the R.A.P.T.O.R debuted on the cover of the March 2005 issue of Reptiles magazine (released in early January 2005), a waitlist was established. If you want to obtain this exciting morph and wish to be on our list for a 2006 R.A.P.T.O.R. please E-MAIL me to confirm your interest and needs. The first group of R.A.P.T.O.R.s are being shipped in April 2006. R.A.P.T.O.R. pricing starts at $1000. each for either sex.

Top quality R.A.P.T.O.R.s, Hets, and Snake-Eyed R.A.P.T.O.R.s, will be posted to this sales gallery on a regular basis beginning today, April 26, 2006. All of the geckos offered as "Hets", (R.A.P.T.O.R. gene carriers), were sired by the famous male featured on the cover of my new book and also pictured above.
